Sexually Transmitted Disease

Image
In 2016, Americans were infected with more than 2 million new cases of gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia, the highest number of these sexually transmitted diseases ever reported, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday. "Clearly we need to reverse this disturbing trend," said Dr. Gail Bolan, director of CDC's Division of STD Prevention. "The CDC cannot do this alone and we need every community in America to be aware that this risk is out there and help educate their citizens on how to avoid it." The agency's annual Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report shows that more than 1.6 million of the new cases were from chlamydia, 470,000 were from gonorrhea and nearly 28,000 cases were of primary and secondary syphilis. Secondary syphilis is the most contagious form of the disease, according to the CDC. While all of these can be cured by antibiotics, many people go undiagnosed and untreated. Only those three STDs are requi

The rifles had been brought to Nigeria in four shipments this year. According to Ali, the different seizures from one source, suggests the complicity of Turkish officials. But the ambassador assured the Customs boss that his country would not in any way support any activity that poses a security threat to Nigeria. He promised to get in touch with Turkish authorities with the findings of the NCS “with a view to fishing out criminals behind the illegal arms shipment to Nigeria”.

Indian court overturns rape conviction

Image
An acquittal in a high-profile rape case in India has reignited debate over the meaning of consent after a judge set aside the conviction of a Bollywood filmmaker, saying "a feeble 'no'" could still signal willingness on the part of an alleged victim. Mahmood Farooqui, the co-director of the hit Bollywood film "Peepli Live," was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2016 after he was found guilty of raping a Columbia University graduate student at his home. Farooqui's lawyers challenged the 2016 ruling in Delhi's High Court. In their appeal, they called attention to the lack of evidence that Farooqui was alone with the victim in his house on the night of the alleged incident. They also made an alternative argument, claiming that "if at all, such an occurrence had taken place" it was with the alleged victim's consent. In throwing out the conviction on Monday, High Court Judge Ashutosh Kumar said Farooqui deserved the "be

“STAR TREK: DISCOVERY” GETS NEARLY 10 MILLION VIEWERS

The first  Star Trek: Discovery  episode which aired on the new CBS streaming service, “CBS All Access”, and got nearly 10 million viewers, which is significantly more than expected. The mystery and buzz created around it definitely added up to the total number of viewers. CBS estimates the total number of viewers to reach 15 million after a week passes thanks to all delayed viewing. The TV network hopes  Discovery  will raise interest for their “All Access.” CBS Interactive president Marc DeBevoise recently spoke about it: “Try it; All Access is free to try and if you don’t think it’s worth the value, we get it. It’s not going to be for everybody. We know some of our customers are going to be cord cutters, some are going to be people who want CBS another way and some just want the premium content we’re offering. Also, it’s not like we’re price gouging here. I think it’s a reasonable price for the value we’re delivering. It’s not just what you get on CBS, it is 10,000 episodes o

Bill Gates now uses an Android phone.

Image
The billionaire  Microsoft   ( MSFT , Tech30)  founder told Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace he recently switched to a mobile device that runs Google's Android software. The company officially killed off its Windows Phone line and software in July, due largely to dwindling consumer interest and a lackluster app store. In the first quarter of 2017, Windows Phones' market share was 0.1%, according to a May report from market intelligence firm IDC. Now, Gates has   presumably   put his own device aside in favor of another. While Gates didn't say which phone he uses, he said it has "a lot of Microsoft software." "So, no iPhone?" Wallace asked. "No iPhone," Gates said. Apple and Microsoft have been at odds for years. Its fierce competition goes back decades and was often showcased in TV ads, such as Apple's famous "I'm a Mac" and "I'm a PC" commercials. More recently, Microsoft has gone after Apple

Chinese drone can take off and land on water

Image
Chinese company is pushing the boundaries of what drones can do out over the sea. Shanghai UVS Intelligence System is set to become the first company in the world to bring to market a commercial drone that's able to take off and land on water. It says the roughly 20-foot long unmanned seaplane, known as the U650, could be used by businesses and the military. The U650 drones should be rolling off factory production lines in Shanghai by the end of the year, a company spokeswoman told CNNMoney. That would put UVS ahead of other firms that have developed amphibious drones but haven't yet moved beyond prototypes into production, according to analysts. The U650 can stay in the air for up to 15 hours, flying as far as 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles), according to the company. But heavy cargoes will reduce those numbers. UVS sees delivery firms as one set of potential customers. Like  Amazon   ( AMZN , Tech30)  in the U.S., Chinese e-commerce companies like  JD.com   (

The air has gone out of Dortmund. 88' -- Asensio bursts right through the middle of the Dortmund defense but just over-runs it with his last touch and Bürki smothers. 85' -- Bale hobbles off to be replaced by Vazquez. 83' -- Aubameyang nods straight at the keeper from a free kick. Presentable chance that. 79' -- GOAL! That's why they're champions. Modric pushes one down the outside of the center back and Ronaldo rockets one in the near post. It looks so simple. B

Saudi Arabia driving ban on women to be lifted

Image
Saudi Arabia's King Salman has issued a decree allowing women to drive for the first time, to the joy of activists. The Gulf kingdom is the only country in the world that bans women from driving. Until now, only men were allowed licences and women who drove in public risked being arrested and fined. Praise for the move has been pouring in from inside Saudi Arabia, as well as around the world. US President Donald Trump said it was a "positive step" towards promoting women's rights. Campaigner Sahar Nassif told the BBC from Jeddah that she was "very, very excited - jumping up and down and laughing". "I'm going to buy my dream car, a convertible Mustang, and it's going to be black and yellow!" The country's US ambassador, Prince Khaled bin Salman, confirmed that women would not have to get male permission to take driving lessons, and would be able to drive anywhere they liked. Our attention has been drawn to the on-going feud between the Psquare brothers in online, print and electronic media. We have also been inundated with calls from the media to authenticate the correspondence Peter Okoye sent to our office, indicating his intention to terminate the contract between the brothers for various reasons and the online video showing a purported scuffle between the brothers in our Chambers. As their close friends and lawyers over many years, we have done our very best to manage their differences over time and very prominent personalities have been invited in the past to intervene. How to Prevent Malaria

Image
1. Determine your level of risk Inform yourself about your destination and the risk for getting malaria. Things you should consider are: The time of year you are travelling, the duration of your stay, the activities you plan to do and where you will be staying. The risk for an infection can vary considerably, even within a single country. Successful malaria prophylaxis depends on your knowledge - make sure you are in the know about malaria risk areas before you go. 2. Stay in well-screened areas at night Avoid sleeping outside or in the vicinity of areas where mosquitoes like to live, e.g. standing water (tyres, lakes, waste dumps). If you are sleeping in a tent, make sure that there are no holes anywhere and keep the door closed at all times. These may be very basic rules, but they can significantly increase the success of your malaria prevention effort. 3. Always use a bed-net impregnated with insecticides Check that the net is not damaged and always ensure it is properly t

Strange but true - My brother's killer now my friend Episode 3

Over the years Denise had forgotten Fields’s name. But in a strange twist, she had ended up working with men just like him. As a young doctor, she had to work places senior staff didn’t want to go. One of those places was the county jail. Denise didn’t mind. Her new patients were often some of the same people she had treated at the county hospital. In 1997 she took a job at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo County, a medium-security men’s prison located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Unlike the men at the jail, those she now treated were there for the long haul. She began to get to know them. Once she knew them a bit, she asked what they were in for. Many of them said murder. They would tell her their stories. She realised they had been in prison for about the same length of time Fields had. Fields, she thought, might, in fact, be like these guys, probably was like them, and she liked these guys. They were “nice people who made mistakes”. She did
