Monkeypox - Schools still shut in Akure over alleged poisonous vaccination

Despite assurances by the Ondo State Government and the military, some private schools refused to open for learning, after Tuesday’s forced vaccination rumour. Gates of some of the schools were shut and parents who brought their children to schools were disappointed. But the situation is different in many public schools, as students returned after the previous day’s scare. Many schools were shut after rumours spread that the military was forcefully vaccinating students in schools. The tension and panic raised by the vaccination rumour has died down.

Otunba Gbenga Joins PDP chairmanship race

The return of zoning formula by the interim leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been described as one of the key factors that will help stabilize the opposition party  ahead of its elective convention in December. Former governor of Ogun state, Gbenga Daniel disclosed this in Abuja while formally announcing his decision to run for the chairmanship of the PDP. Daniel says internal democracy and giving party members opportunities to directly elect their party leaders and candidates for public office are what will further create stability in the party if it hopes to bounce back in 2019.

Ogoni cleanup ongoing

A member of the Senate Committee on Environment, Senator Magnus Abe has assured Nigerians that the ongoing cleanup of Ogoni community in Rivers State would not be abandoned as been speculated in some quarters. He made this known during one of the sessions of the ongoing 11th National Council on Environment meeting, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The Senator who stood in for the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment, Senator Oluremi Tinubu pleaded for understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders and assured them that the national assembly will provide proper oversight to make the project a success. Protesting staff of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, have shut down the headquarters of the agency in Abuja. The NEMA workers say their Director General, Mustapha Maihaja has failed to implement earlier resolutions brokered by the Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige. They want him to be immediately sacked.

The Forbes list of 400 richest Americans shows that the billionaire-in-chief's fortune fell by $600 million to $3.1 billion. As a result he dropped to #248 on the list, after coming in at #156 last year. The magazine attributed his decline in wealth to "a tough New York real estate market, particularly for retail locations; a costly lawsuit and an expensive presidential campaign." 4 U.S SOLDIERS KILLED IN NIGER - U.S STARTS INVESTIGATION

The Defense Department is conducting an initial review of the mission in Niger and the ambush by 50 ISIS-affiliated fighters that left four US soldiers dead and two wounded. Multiple US officials have described to CNN a scene of confusion on the ground during the unexpected firefight. The investigation will be an effort "to get all the facts correct," an administration official familiar with the review told CNN. The review will aim to determine precisely what happened -- something that is still not clear nearly two weeks after the incident occurred, according to the official. The comprehensive investigation of the timeline has been ordered by US Africa Command and includes all the military branches and elements of US intelligence agencies that were involved in the mission.
